San Juan del Sur – The hub of the Pacific Coast this small city offers great night life and a relaxing atmosphere. While the beach in San Juan del is not the best in the world the beaches to the north and south are in the top ten. One of the top ten surf beaches in the world is just minutes north. San Juan del is home to Pelican Eyes an excellent getaway with serene views of the ocean with five star dinning and extremely plush Villas available for the night. If you have ever dreamed of sitting on a beach without the masses of people, the beaches around San Juan del Sur will pleasantly provide.
Granada – The oldest city in Nicaragua and all of the New World is a pleasant city with much to offer. The city has many restraints that will have you coming back for more. In addition, Granada also has many fine hotels that allow you to relax and enjoy this quintessential Spanish Colonial city. The city also sits in the shadow of Mombacho and extinct volcano, which can be seen from any vantage point in the city. This jewel is popular among tourist but is not over run. The way of life is slow and many come on vacation and never leave.
Laguna de Apoyo – The fastest growing tourist destination in Nicaragua is Laguna de Apoyo this rare find boasts the cleanest waters and the deepest point in Central American. It shoreline is 200 meters above sea level while its deepest point is over a hundred meters below sea level. The waters of the Laguna are crystal clear and soften and soothe the skin. This lake has become popular because of its proximity to Granada and the calming affect of its waters.
Caribbean – The Caribbean coast of Nicaragua is relatively unexplored and inaccessible. This area is quite stunning but difficult to visit because of it remoteness. The inhabitants of the region have a British colonial influence like much of the Caribbean. For the daring traveler the eastern half of Nicaragua is just right. For those who prefer ease of travel and hotels with all the conveniences, I’d wait.
Omotepe Island – Home to two active volcanoes this Island welcomes travelers. Like the Caribbean this area has few hotels. The more popular tourist destinations do have hotels with internet and hot water but they are far from the Ritz. This destination is very popular with younger travelers. |
