
Arts and Crafts:
Masaya, the Cradle of Nicaraguan Folklore, is located 25 minutes away from Managua. It has 317, 499 inhabitants. This area has the richest expression of local art and craft that can be found in Nicaragua. In Masaya the towns of Catarina and San Juan de Oriente have many stores and shops where handicrafts such as ceramics, paintings and much more can be seen.
Canopy Tours
This activity is for those who like to adventure and fear not the heights. Canopy tours take you to explore the nature in the treetops hanging on a harness along steel cables from one platform to another experiencing the unique and amazing views. There are five canopy tours in Nicaragua, two located on Mombacho Volcano, one in San Juan del Sur, one adjacent to Tiscapa Lagoon in Managua and one in El Crucero.
Ecoturism
Nicaragua has great potential for ecotourism and in last decade has shown the world its beauty and natural surroundings, which amaze all. Nicaragua has 6% of worlds diversity of flora and fauna. Some of the must see places are: Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve, La Flor Wildlife Refuge, Masaya Volcano National Park, and Domitila Private Wildlife Reserves.
Kayaking
Since Nicaragua has a vast number of lakes and waterways, finding a place to practice water sports is very easy. Granada, located at just 45 minutes away from Managua has a very interesting place to kayak around and enjoy birdlife at its best: Lake Nicaragua, where Osprey, Great Egrets and Kingfishers can be spotted while getting into the narrow paths in the world famous Isletas.
Languages
Nicaragua offers the opportunity to learn Spanish in a natural setting, providing high quality language training with well-experienced local people. The main centers for language study are located at Granada, Esteli, Managua and San Juan del Sur.
Scuba diving
For those who love to explore the wealth of the sea with its coral reef formations and its flora and fauna. Little Corn Island located on the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua offers visitors the chance to get their Open Water Certificate and second dives into secret and unspoiled caves within its waters. On the Pacific coast, Scuba diving is also available at Laguna de Apoyo and San Juan del Sur.
Sport fishing
Fishing in Nicaragua is an unforgettable experience, where you can battle with the giant marlin, tarpon, and snook on the pacific coast or machacas on Lake Nicaragua or Atlantic Coast. An annual international sport-fishing tournament takes place in December in different locations of Nicaragua.
Surfing
San Juan del Sur offers surf lovers from all around the world the opportunity to enjoy perfect waves, golden sunsets and good times while on vacation or extended stay. Local people have started to get involved into the sport holding and participating in annual surfing tournaments where they have shown their surfing skills.
